With Checkmate software, you can print checks from virtually any other software program that exports transaction files. Checkmate includes specific importing capabilities for all the most popular programs. A custom import feature lets you create special import routines for less common applications.
Checkmate then permits you to print the imported data onto any style check, using any laser or impact printer - GUARANTEED!
Save up to 80% by printing your checks on our blank check stock!
Pay only 3 to 6 cents per check, instead of 15 to 35 cents. Stock only inexpensive blank check paper - it's no longer necessary to pre-order a supply of expensive pre-printed checks for each account. No obsolete checks to be discarded! Other benefits include:
- Improved efficiency. Print checks on multiple bank accounts, without changing printer stock. No loading, aligning, bursting, decollating, or separate signing processes required.
- Enhanced security. No negotiable check stock on hand to be stolen or lost. Multiple-level software security.
- Extended productivity. Print more checks in less time, with fewer operator hours. Frees up personnel for more productive tasks.
- Increased control. Print manual checks on demand. Software automatically maintains detailed audit logs.
Checkmate software works in three easy steps:
- Place our high-security Level 1 blank MICR paper stock in your laser printer. (For an overview of MICR printing and its benefits, see What Is MICR?.)
- Place the certified Burton MICR toner cartridge in your laser printer.
- Import or enter check information, and print.
The American Banking Association requires that all check coding and routing information be printed in a special font called MICR. Checkmate software prints all check coding in MICR fonts, ensuring that your checks are 100% bank compatible.
A special check-designing routine, developed exclusively for Checkmate, correctly places the MICR font on the bottom of your check. Checkmate includes a transparent positioning gauge that ensures correct placement, no matter what type of check or laser printer you are using.
The MICR toner is a special black toner with magnetic particles in suspension. Use of this type of toner means your checks will be easily read by bank scanners and sorters. Information about MICR toner and printing methods is included in our What Is MICR? overview; a more complete discussion can be found under the Printing Solutions heading.

Checkmate software provides Level 1 password-protected security. This feature means you can protect your check form templates from unauthorized use and / or alterations. Once set, the correct password must be entered in order to run Burton MICR's check printing software - or to disable or change the password.
Burton MICR System Solutions will supply MICR certified check stock with colored backgrounds, artificial watermarks, and void pantographs - features which help to minimize the risk of fraud and forgery. In addition, we can provide logo and signature scanning and encryption services. Encryption prevents unauthorized users from scanning their own signatures for fraudulent purposes.
Checkmate comes equipped with an unlimited number of check registers, so you can keep accurate records of the checks you print.
Negotiable documents require Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) characters. For reliable processing, each document must meet exacting criteria. Items such as character placement and the signal strength of the magnetic ink are paramount to the acceptance of the document. As participants on the ANSI committee assigned to determine standards for laser-printed documents, Burton MICR System Solutions is at the forefront of the documents standards and testing industry.
Burton MICR System solutions recommends quarterly testing of documents prepared on each laser printer. During this testing, we will check the placement, formation and signal strength of your MICR characters. At the end of testing you will receive a statement of facts related to your documents, at which time we can assist you in making any required adjustments. This type of testing provides assurance that your documents will be accepted by financial institutions.
The software itself is designed to be intuitive and requires minimum technical support. However, we do offer several preferred support options for professional or network product users; please contact us for details and pricing.
